The Hardest Arithmetic
The quote "The hardest arithmetic to master is that which enables us to count our blessings" has been brought to my attention. In my opinion, this quote has nothing to do with math. I think the hardest arithmetic is a task to be done. Any task done to help others will make us blessed. This quote kind of makes me think its related to Christmas and how helping others will earn us blessings. I really liked this quote because it ad me thinking for a while before I could write my response, it was challenging but good to give my opinion to. Hope you guys enjoyed it!

Could I agree with Zachary?
I could not agree with Zachary because although math can be something worth having a passion for, he can wait a bit longer to attend college. This is a one-in-a lifetime opportunity. How can a 15 year old kid get accepted to college at such an early age just for having super math skills. I believe he should enjoy his childhood, better said teen years, before taking a big step. You know you only get to live once. I also disagree with his belief of choosing math over everything. I mean, yes it is very important concept, every human, as i sugggest, should experiment more subjects accademically, and who knows maybe math wasn't his calling! You can't make your life concentrated on one thing. Also, I thought when he stated he would choose it over everything, I feel he is giving up on all other important factors in his life and feelings for others. Even though this is a great excellent opportunity, I sadly must disagree with this kids opinion.

My Math Perspective
My math perspective has changed since the begging of first quarter! Before, I use to have a bad relationship with math. I've never been good at it or ever was it easy to learn or at least absorb some of it to stay for a long time. I saw math as it if were rocket science.Starting here at Lourdes Academy I started to understand a bit more with my new math teacher. She made my perspective to change and see math a bit more appealing. During first quarter, we had a project to do, My Math Story, and in it was a slide we had to do and name it my nadir experience. While I wrote that I noticed how much I've struggled in math and I thought about how I hated math at that point, but then realized that now in high school its kind of fun. I can Honestly say, my math perspective has changed.

Do I have the math gene?
I do not have the math gene because it takes me time to process math in my head. I know my mom has it, fir her its easy to do mental math or solve a problem quickly, for me its different. She would always say how I was good at math, so it makes sense my child is too! but thats wrong and she realizes that I'm not the best at math. She tries her best to help me and i can kind of understand it but i cant do mental math in 3 seconds or a problem without using my fingers and step by step procedures. Its kind of hard to not have this gene because it causes more work and stress...

History of Mathematics
It was interesting to find out that the earl humans used clay to count, i didn't know that. Also I am surprised on how much work it took for cultures to calculate and the many steps they took to do one simple division problem. I really like the part where the roman numerals were explain and the abacus because i didn't know how to read them or use them. If none of these civilizations thought of ways to complete this whole math and trading thing, we would be really far back in what we know... Also, I was very interested the whole 7 minutes :). I guess i learned some new things today in math!

What color is math?
If math could be a color, it would be black because, all the colors of the rainbow mixed together make a dark color like black. To me every subset of math is a color and all mixed together is black. Just like people, we are all different color and we make up one single species and that's kind of how I see math, in some ways. This is how I see math in a more dramatical way. I know some people might say black, "but math is my favorite subject it should be my favorite color" or "I hate math so its the color I like the least", but math and me have a mutual relationship, I don't hate it or love it just like black, i don't hate it or love it.

The world would be a better place without mathematics.
I disagree with this statement because the world wouldn't be as advanced as it is now. If we think about it, everything we do, starting from the moment we wake up to the moment before we all go to bed we use math. We wouldn't have all the technology such as medical machinery, roller coasters, iPods, t.vs and calculators because inventing these things takes math to measure and do. We wouldn't have these buildings, bridges, trains, or airplanes because we wouldn't know how to construct them without proper measurements because the world doesn't have math. A simpler way without math would be not knowing how to add, subtract, use fractions, make food taste right, make clothing fit, wear proper shoes. Most important, we wouldn't be able to use money, we'd still be trading our belongings. We would also be late for everything and we wouldn't know when to meet at what time or get early to important meetings. As some of my followers just finished reading on this math blog, the main point im trying to give out is that the world would be a horrible place without math.
